KHIRY Collaborates with De Beers, RAD & Kiki Layne for 'Black is Brilliant' Campaign at the Met Gala
September 13, 2021
Kiki Layne wore a custom suite of KHIRY Fine jewels to the 2021 Met Gala; produced with ethically sourced Botswana Mined White Diamonds for the De Beers Black is Brilliant Campaign an effort to increase representation of Black jewelry designers on Red Carpets and to increase visibility of the beautiful diamonds produced to benefit the whole of Botswanan society
So honored to have brought this collaboration to life over a 6 month period, and so stunned with the final result!
The capsule collection features a pair of Globe Drop Earrings topped with a sculptural Black Power Fist silhouette, paired with the KHIRY Signature Khartoum Silhouette and a trio of rings, pairing the two motifs, all set with impeccable white diamonds.
I was struck when we first began the collaborative process how many corners of the diaspora and the continent were coming together to make this possible. From Botswana, to my own families Black southern roots, to Wayman and Micah’s own distinct origins, it was clear that though our backgrounds were different we were being brought together to express a common goal; that Black contributions be recognized and valued in ways that center the people that make them possible.
I hoped these pieces would be a beacon to the broader community, and a reminder to all of the varied ways that we play a central role in shaping the world that we know today.
