A Reminder

A CAMPAIGN FOR THE MEMORY OF BLACK HISTORIES, THEIR VERY LOCATION IN AND IMPACT ON THE BODIES OF BLACK PEOPLE, THE IMAGES WE SEE, AND THE EYES OF ALL WHO VIEW THEM, AS WELL AS THE POTENTIAL THESE VERY, BEAUTIFUL, HISTORY-MAKING BODIES, HOLD TO SHAPE THE FUTURE WE WILL ALL SHARE TOGETHER.
April 14, 2021

In light of Super Tuesday in the US, a politically historic moment, we are excited to release A Reminder, a campaign film for the memory of black history, and the recognition of the power black people have in determining our future. Appropriating both the beautiful and tragic imagery that has defined the black body in Western visual culture, the film employs quick flashes of archival footage, paired with campaign-style fashion images to subtly make a point about the role ever-present images play in shaping our values, especially those related to race.

By reflecting critically on today's world of images, A Reminder opens a door for new images to shape the future, while simultaneously imploring black people to explore definitions of the self that depart from antiquated narratives. Featuring original poetry, animation, and music, by KHIRY Creative Director Jameel Mohammed, the full campaign is available now at khiry.com
